StyleArc Cassie Pant

I'm in desperate need of trousers beyond jeans.  I've gained a little weight and didn't relish facing up to it by sewing pants.  Necessity has finally over-ridden vanity.

I decided to give the StyleArc Cassie Pants a go.  Style Arc rates them as "medium" difficulty.  I would rate them as "easy."  These are more glorified leggings than trousers.  I would never wear a short top or anything tucked into them.  For me, they are perfect paired with tunics and long shirts and sweaters.

Here's how I'll wear them.
I chose a stretch, polyester twill with a flocked flower pattern.  I got the fabric from Fabric.com and it was inexpensive.   The flocking all melted off in the dryer!  I think the dark black and the tone on tone print obscures the patchwork and topstitching.
Gulp, here is the back view.
These weren't a perfect success, but the pattern is promising enough that I want another go.

Next time I will
1. Use a lighter coloured fabric to show off all the patchwork
2. Use heavier fabric to hide the lumps and bumps since the fabric will be lighter
3. Raise the waist in the back 2 inches
4. Use a less stretchy fabric because I didn't like the bagginess through the thighs (Now there is a phrase I don't utter often, lol!)

Both Robin and Shams have made these pants.  Their versions turned out really well.

Fashionable pull on ankle length pant with knee patch

I hope to show you a second effort soon!

  1. What a versatile addition to your wardrobe. I'd like to make a pair of pairs like this to wear exclusively under long tops and short dresses. I'll be watching to see how your next pair go.

  2. Your pants/trousers look great, and so do you! I'm sure you'e the only one who sees the weight (also, one looks slimmer in well-cut clothes, aren't you glad you sew ;-)).

  3. These are great. They are the perfect pant for tucking in to boots. Whether or not the it obscures the seaming, I really like the black on black print.

  6. These are cute! And I agree with Liza, you need some knee high boots for these! :-) Weird about the flocking melting off in the dryer, I have some fabric that is similar, so I'll keep that in mind if I need to dry it. I should really try one of those style arc patterns, do you think if I beg pitifully they'll offer a PDF? ;-)

    1. I so agree about the PDFs. If the Indy pattern makers all sold PDFs, I'd end up buying loads. It's the shipping that costs so much for me.

  14. The seaming is very interesting on these pants -- hopefully they show up more in your next pair.

Did you knit the sweater too?

  15. I think the fit looks pretty darn good from what I can see! I've seen both Robin's and Sham's version and I'm thinking I'd like to make these. Adding it to the sewing to-do list!

  16. Karin, you've nailed the fit on these in the back, as far as I can see! Great pair of trousers. I love the design details.

  17. These look great on you! Thanks for the great tip on the Cassie pants. I love the style, and am totally with you on the necessity overriding vanity thing. I have very few pants that fit, so I broke down and made some Colette Clovers. I'm SO glad I did. And I'm so glad for you that you found a pant that flatters you so well. The sweater is beautiful too!

  19. Such interesting lines on this pattern - so different to the usual boring straight up and down and that's it!

These look to fit you really well, and of course I love them with your pink jumper :-).
