McCalls M6512 by Melissa Watson: Comfy and Stylish!

McCalls M6512

Made up in Swiss Dot from Truro Fabrics

I don't own many blouses because I don't like to iron.  But, I saw this one made up on Lynn's blog: Wonderfully Made, and I was smitten.  It's nice to wear a lightweight, natural fibre, woven fabric, when the weather is hot and muggy.

This was not a difficult pattern.  There was quite a bit of hand sewing though: on the insides of the collar, sleeves and front bands.  I think you could just "stitch in the ditch" and avoid it all, if you really hate hand sewing.  I went ahead and did the hand sewing.

My fabric is a loosely woven voile, and I was worried about the seams holding up after a few washes.  I decided to use french seams everywhere except where the sleeves/yokes meet the front pieces of the blouse.  Then, I followed the pattern instructions.  The pattern instructions were very complete and there was even a large section about adjusting the fit.  Not something that I needed on such a loose fitting blouse, but still nice to have.

Now my only problem is figuring out how to wear the blouse!  I think it requires some sort of skinny pants.  This is tough for me, because my thighs don't fit into skinny pants, lol!  I think wide legged pants would be too much volume.  In the end, I settled on the Burda stretch pants that I made in the winter.  The pattern for these pants was great, sadly the ponte I used for them wasn't.  After not much wear at all, these pants have pills all over them and the roughed surface of them attracts all sorts of lint. Here are some pictures of me in the blouse.
Camera is back!

Full length.

And, another.

I am a winner!

I won Angela, at SewMentalMama's contest!  I won this adorable little girl's outfit for my five year old.   Angela even threw in an Oliver+s pattern (I feel guilty, these patterns are pricey!) and some cute sewing notions.

I've lifted this picture off Angela's blog because I don't have a camera at all anymore.  Hopefully ours will return from the shop before School Sports Day.

Just so cute, and beautifully sewn too.  All the seams are carefully finished.  Puts me to shame really!
There are some lovely kids clothes on the SewMentalMama website.  If you sew for kids, it's definitely worth a look.  There are loads of pretty dresses and even a few projects for mom and the boys.

Meanwhile, since I can't blog without a camera, I'm sewing!  Hope to have something to show you soon:-)

I'm so glad I sew!

A friend asked me to attend a business fair with her.  She asked yesterday. We went this morning.  I gave all of my business attire to a clothes closet years ago.

I did have the Simplicity shirt that I attempted a few months ago and the shoes I bought for the dinner dance last month.  Luckily, I had about 3 years of Burda mags and some black, polyester, ponte double knit.
My husband dropped and broke our SLR camera while trying to take a picture of the Queen on her Diamond Jubilee floating down the Thames.  He was on his tiptoes with out eight year old on his shoulders.  My pictures are therefore worse than normal.

This is the side where all the ruching is.  Hard to tell I know.

Anyone recognise the shoes?  They came in handy already!
I was able to trace, cut, and sew up the skirt in a few hours.  Phew!  It might not be my best look, but it did the trick.  I am sure it was quicker than shopping and certainly cheaper.  Some times it's just really nice to sew.

The pattern was 113-5/2012.  I no longer know how to get to archived line drawings.  Or I would show it to you.

I made mine a little shorter.
