A dear friend of mine had twins. Over a year ago. I started to wonder, whether these baby quilts might end up becoming graduation presents.
| I loved it, but I got it all messed around. I think it's OK, even with the errors, but I couldn't face making a second one. |
| Much simple to patch together. |
Meanwhile, I can now think about other sewing. My house needs some freshening up, and the only thing holding it back is me. I am too selfish with my sewing time to want to make pillows, curtains, blinds etc.
Perhaps with an easy to sew, easy to wear winter uniform I could manage. I ordered my first StyleArc pants. Their Cassie Stretch Woven Pants won me over. I can imagine them being comfortable and working well with chunky sweaters and knee boots in Autumn/Winter. Of course, I tried to put out of my mind, just how difficult my lower body is to fit, and the fact that they will not send a multisized pattern. This could be an expensive mistake. Here goes nothing!

The quilts turned out cute! And I kind of love that they aren't matchy-matchy, twins seem to get so much of that sort of thing, so it's refreshing to see your individualized quilts. :-)
ReplyDeleteI hear you on needing to make up curtains and such. My house is desperately in need of new ones too, but I just can't quite make myself do it, even though I've got some cool design ideas in mind.
And I've heard that StyleArc is really good about helping you choose the right size for you, so I wouldn't hesitate to ask if you aren't sure about which one to order. :-)
What a BEAUTIFUL gift - both of them. I will never quilt a darned thing. So I give loads of credit to those who do. Good luck with the pants!
ReplyDeleteThe quilts are gorgeous and the 'Windy Days' one is very striking, what a wonderful gift! I'm also sewing for twins at the moment - nothing as amazing as your quilts - dresses for my SIL 2b's nieces!
ReplyDeleteI keep looking at those Style Arc patterns, but haven't yet bought one, I'll be interested in how you find the trousers pattern
Squeeee!!! Did you hear me screaming with delight from across the pond? Those quilts are adorable! Mistakes? Miscues? What? They are so cute, and I think you should just tell everyone they turned out exactly as planned!
ReplyDeleteI don't see a single mistake! :-) They are both so pretty and the parents will be thrilled with the gift. Have fun with the pants pattern. It looks like a fun pair of leggings/slim pants.
ReplyDeleteThose quilts are really really gorgeous. I'm really loving the 'windmill' look!
ReplyDeleteI've been eyeing off stylearc patterns for a while now... those pants have been popping up on numerous sewing bloggers posts. So I'm really looking forward to seeing how they turn out!
You are such a good friend :) These quilts are absolutely beautiful!! I just love the bright cheerful colours showcased against the white backgrounds. I am certain these will be treasured!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous quilts! I love the white backgrounds.
ReplyDeleteI can't think of a nicer gift than handmade quilts! Both of these will be so cherished. I love the whirly feel of the pinwheel quilt and the pretty colors in both! I haven't invested in a Style Arc pattern yet either. You picked a really cool design there! Love the look of those pants.
ReplyDeleteUm.... what errors in the quilt? I think it's beautiful! I love the design of it, and the blues and greens I find very calming. Someone made me a baby quilt for my DD1, and I still have it. I don't quilt at all and admire folks who do! Looking forward to seeing your StyleArc trousers. I really like the details in the design.
ReplyDeleteYou have no idea how much I admire people who quilt- that precision and design is way beyond me. Added to which they usually make for other people, whereas I do the very selfish thing and make for myself! Lovely.
ReplyDeleteI am feeing sooooooooooo much better. I was really sick for 3 weeks, still not 100% but about 85. I buy almost every skirt pattern that I see - as you can see even the yoked ones. My problem: I can fit the skit part (it fits fantastic) but fitting the yoke is a whole nuther story. IT IS ALWAYS TOO SMALL! What the heck??? I really don't understand what I'm doing wrong. I know its crazy, but I usually cut my skirts too big and then work my way down to a good fit. So, I'm cutting the yoke too big to start with, but in the end it just doesn't fit. It's too small.
ReplyDeleteDo you have any fitting tips for yokes????
Love your quilts by the way!
Dear Karin,
ReplyDeleteI happened upon your blog searching for how to sew shearling. I just bought a vintage shearling coat (quite lightweight shearling, originally from France) but in desperate need of a style overhaul...and wondered if my home machine could actually sew this...without ruining the machine. Could you let me know what sort of machine you use and/or whether you think a solid Bernina (1530) would be able to deal with this? I also have an Elna Grasshopper that I have not quite got up and running because right now it makes verry tiny stitches but it is supposed to be fairly heavy duty. Can I just sew straight through two thicknesses of shearling? (and no, sadly I am NOT an experienced seamstress! I am a beginner with courage). Thanks! Karin
I need friends like you near me, lol! quilts are absolutely beautiful and no one will see the "failure", only you. I'm sure your friend will appreciate the hard work of two quilts made with your hands
