Thanks Jilly!

Thanks to Jilly, I managed to turn off word verification on my blog.  (Or I think I have.  If it is still on, please alert me.)  She has a some simple instructions on her blog that make it a snap, even for the technically challenged, or mentally lazy (my hand is up for both of these, oops.)

If we start getting unwanted solicitations for dodgy pharmaceuticals or worse in my comments, I'll have to turn it back on.  But lets give it a go.  I appreciate all your hints, tips, help and just plain encouragement, so I don't want commenting to become a quest for the golden fleece!

Now I am off to grocery shop, bake a birthday cake, pre-cook dinner, and pick kids up from school and then run them to ballet! And fingers crossed, find an hour to get going on that cute bow tie shirt, so hopefully, I can show it off to you all!

  1. I finally figured it out after a bit of searching - wish I had seen Jilly's post first! Hope you got that hour of sewing :)

  2. I turned mine off and had seven spam comments in about twelve hours. It's back on.

  3. I think as long as you don't allow anonymous commenting, you should be fine. Just make sure that you have the option for name/URL--since that's often how people on Wordpress have to comment when OpenID (or wordpress) decide to have a snit fit. I don't know about blogger, but wordpress has a built in spam filter that catches most of the spam, maybe you need to enable it on blogger?

Anyway, can't wait to see the bow tie shirt finished! It looks like such a cute design.

  4. I turned mine off long time ago and have had no issues. Of late the double words required is even more of a PITA. Thanks for making this decision.

  6. I had to revert to the old interface to turn mine off (didn't even realise the verification was on)! Thanks for the link to the instructions :)

  7. *thud* That's me hitting the desk at seeing my name up in LIGHTS! ;-D

Well OK, not lights, but hey, a post title? Even better! Thanks sweetie! I have yet to give back 1/10th of everything I've learned from reading all of the wonderful, generous blogs that abound, but I'm THIS happy that my instructions were helpful to so many people!

  8. Yay!! So excited to see how this comes out. :)

That stinks about the pharma ads... Apparently I'm getting ads on my blog, too, no idea how to turn them off but I suspect it means paying $$ and spending some time digging around in my dashboard.. Sigh.

  11. I tried turning mine off, and so far I'm averaging one spammy comment every 12 hours. I'm pretty sure they're all for nasty things I don't want to look at. So I tried setting it to Open ID (thanks for the suggestions, countrygirlcouture!) Hoping that helps--aside from the annoyance, it's such a letdown to think someone commented on my blog only to find out that it's a porn ad!

The blouse pattern looks like it will be really cute, I'm looking forward to seeing it!
