I finally got my
Burda 01-2012-120 black ponte pants finished. I traced out a 40 everywhere except for the back leg pieces where I traced a 42. This was a much smaller size than Burda recommended, but I wanted to make sure there was negative ease.
I followed Sandra Betzina's wonderful video on Threads for how to insert a flyfront zip. But I was at a loss for how to neatly work the facing around the zip. In the end it's a bit of a mess, and I did a lot of hand sewing. Most of my experience with sewing pants is through Burda Style Magazine. So I've never really had clear instructions for how to do things properly. I think I got away with this one in the end.
It was a good pattern, everything came together nicely. I would only say that the pants were a little short. I am 5'6", and I added 1" and 5/8" for the hems. In the end, I only turned them up 7/8" for the hems because I felt they were short.
These are the perfect, comfy trousers for layering in winter. I would never, ever wear them with a short boxy jacket or a tucked in shirt with no long layer in the back. I'll leave that for those with more athletic figures than mine!

This is how I would actually wear them.

Just to show you the details of how they fit. I consider posting this picture, "taking one for the team."

Thank goodness only the sewing sorority reads this blog!
Now to move on to the faux fur vest!
Karin I think they look fabulous on you! There is nothing better than a well-fitting pair of ponte pants. I am certain they will be your new favorites! Well done, my friend!
ReplyDeleteI love how you put your outfit together. It looks stylish and comfy too. Great pants! You've got me thinking now about this type of basic/casual wardrobe.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great and well-fitting basic! I'm just glad I'm not the only one showing myself in leggings (or worse: swimsuit) on the interwebs... All in the name of science, eh, sewing! (Also glad that only the sewing sorority cares to see it, indeed...)
ReplyDeleteGreat Fit! What would we do without the sewing sorority! I love the way you styled them in the first pic.
ReplyDeleteTerrific trousers!! They look great on you, and are sure to be a workhorse in your closet. I have this project on my list, but I keep putting it off as I get seduced by prints and fabrics and ruffles...I need black pants.
ReplyDeleteTerrific pants, they look fantastic on you. You styled them beautifully and just think how they will look with your fur vest!
ReplyDeleteGreat Job Karin! Looking forward to seeing how the rest of your wardrobe turns out.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing - it's useful to have the "honesty" shots - even if they are not our most flattering look! Such a good idea to sew a wardrobe - otherwise those useful basics never get made.
ReplyDeleteI agree, a great fit! I bet they are so comfortable in ponte. I think everybody needs a pair of black trousers like this!
ReplyDeleteThe fit looks good and I'm sure they're incredibly comfy. I haven't sewn with ponte yet...must add some ponte trousers to my queue.
ReplyDeleteThe fit looks absolutely brilliant! and I'm sure you will find these soooo useful.
ReplyDeleteIf you are after some really good trousers and fly-insertion instructions, then it might be worth investing in a Vogue or a Burda (envelope) pattern.... their instructions are superior to all others imo :)
These look great! Thanks so much for showing them, as I really liked the tech drawing. I always find Burda trousers on the short side for me, but recently they love to make them even shorter - read the descriptions carefully to make sure they haven't sneakily made them "ankle length" or something!
ReplyDeleteNice fit! Maybe I'd have better luck with ponte trousers than regular wovens.
ReplyDeleteThe pants look great. They look very tailored, but comfy.
ReplyDeleteGreat job - these look great! I'm sure they will be a very versatile addition to your wardbrobe :)
ReplyDeleteThey look great. You did a good job.
ReplyDeleteThese pants will be so versatile! You did such a nice job getting a good fit. I have some black ponte pegged for a pair of pants too. Very inspiring!
ReplyDeleteGreat job - the fit looks spot on and they look sooo comfortable; just perfect for winter. I don't think I would want to ever take them off if they were mine!
ReplyDeleteNice! I really liked this pattern in the magazine. I'm sure you will get so much use out of these. They look great!
