Why you shouldn't shop exclusively at Waitrose

A clutch of angels.  Mine is in the middle.

My daughter is the little girl in the middle.  After the dress rehearsal, she was dissatisfied with her dress preferring those of the other girls.  Where did they get these dresses at such short notice?  Why out of town super stores of course!  Apparently I could have bought an angel dress at Tesco's for £8 that she would have liked better, and I could have saved myself a weekend's work, lol.  I also could have saved myself £12 in the process.  (It cost me £20 to make mine.)  Sigh.  This is what I get for being a spoiled housewife and always shopping at Waitrose.  (In my defence it is less than half a mile from my house versus a quarter of an hour drive to Tescos.) For my non-UK readers, Waitrose is a lovely store, where they supply genuine, organic parma ham and the like but not tatty angel costumes!

  1. LOL! Last week I was going to make TLo a long-sleeved t-shirt. Then I realized I could buy one at Walmart for $2.50 and all I had to do was hem it up a little.

Doh. Sometimes they just make it too easy.

  2. Oh how I miss Waitrose. Actually I even miss Tesco's out here which gives you an idea of our supermarkets!
Well I think your angel outfit was lovely, it's a shame children don't notice your superior workmanship!

  3. Well I think your little angel looks lovely - when I sew for my daughters all the congratulations come from myself too ! - hopefully they will appreciate it later on.
Also I love your recent forays into sewing with leather too.

  4. Well, I think your daughter's dress is much much prettier than the others. And those cheap ones were probs made in China by underpaid workers; so I applaud you for making your own, even if it costs a bit more it is the right thing to do!

  5. Your daughter will appreciate your work after her teen years, when she will want not to look like everybody else. I guess the main thing today is to get satisfaction that you did a quality work and your daughter's dress looked more expensive than others'.

  6. Oh, that's so funny!! I think she looks the nicest angel, but they always want the same things at that age don't they?

  7. I think that your angel looks the best of the lot. Who ever saw angels with short skirts? Unfortunately, it will take a few years before your hard work is appreciated - but it will.

  8. I shop at Wholefoods (near, expensive and gourmet-ish) instead of Target (further away, but dirt cheap)...I hear you. But your daughter looks beautiful and she will appreciate your efforts some day.

  10. She looks gorgeous. I always think there are parents that buy from Tescos; those that make their own costumes for their children (or bake their birthday cakes - I guess you do too?) and then those that pay for them to be MADE by someone else :)
